Boylan concerned at impact of Luas works on local businesses

Sinn Féin’s North Inner City Councillor Janice Boylan has today pressed Dublin City Council to facilitate engagement between Luas and city businesses following representation that the ongoing Luas works are negatively impacting on local businesses.

Speaking after raising the issue at the Dublin City Council Central Area Committee, Councillor Boylan said,

“While I welcome the efforts in improving the public transport infrastructure across the north of the city, I’m very concerned about the negative impact and substantial losses which local businesses are facing because of the ongoing works. This is being felt very much around the Parnell Street and Moore Street areas given the diversions, obstructions and reduction in footfall. Many businesses feel isolated with some reporting losses of up to 40%.

“I have encouraged the Council management to facilitate engagement between Luas and local businesses as a matter of urgency to help mitigate future loss and assist businesses in making contingency plans for the time ahead. Businesses need an accurate timeframe of when the current works will be completed and it’s vital that disruption is minimised.
