Boylan welcomes review of Liffey Cycle Route

Sinn Féin’s representative for Smithfield & Stoneybatter, Councillor Janice Boylan has welcomed the decision of Dublin City Council’s Transportation Strategic Policy Committee to review options for the proposed Liffey Cycle route. The National Transport Authority has also suspended funding for the project pending the review.

Speaking today after raising her concerns with the relevant authorities, Councillor Janice Boylan said,

“I have previously gone on record to highlight my concerns regarding the proposed Liffey Cycle project and the impact it would have on traffic congestion in Stoneybatter. I’ve been working with residents, businesses, community groups and schools to ensure their voices are heard on this important matter.

“The decision by the NTA to suspend funding for the project pending a review is the correct decision. I’d like to commend the ‘Save Our Streets’ campaign particularly for their efforts in recent months to highlight the community concerns.

“Everyone accepts the environmental and health benefits of cycling, however cycling routes need to be integrated as part of a broader traffic management plan for the city, which doesn’t just alleviate traffic in one area and divert it all into a neighbouring community. I also reiterated my call for full community consultation at this morning’s meeting and I will continue to update the community on any further developments.” CRIOCH
