Clock is ticking on government to intervene in Aldborough House redevelopment

Sinn Féin’s Deputy Leader and Dublin Central Teachta Dála Mary Lou McDonald has today repeated calls for the Government to urgently intervene and acquire one of the last remaining Georgian buildings in Dublin’s North Inner City and restore it for community use.

Aldborough House, which was constructed in 1796 has fallen into a state of disrepair in recent years. A private company was recently awarded planning permission from Dublin City Council to develop the building into office units.

Speaking today at a Sinn Féin demonstration outside Aldborough House, the Dublin Central TD Mary Lou McDonald said,

“I have repeatedly, both privately and publicly appealed for the Government to intervene and take ownership of this North Inner-City landmark. Aldborough House is an iconic building in the heart of my constituency; it’s a national treasure which is effectively being traded in for development.

“The local community would much prefer that it is taken under public ownership and restored for community use. Sinn Féin support plans for the regeneration of the area, however any development must be done in conjunction with the community. I have sought a meeting with the developer and we will continue to highlight this campaign until action is taken. The clock is ticking on the government to intervene.” CRIOCH
