Confusion over future of Phibsborough Post Office – McDonald

Dublin Central Sinn Féin TD Mary Lou McDonald has said that there is real confusion amongst the Phibsborough community that the local Post Office is to close. Deputy McDonald TD has written to Minister Naughten seeking urgent clarification.

Speaking today, Deputy McDonald TD said,

“The local community are hearing mixed messages about the future of the Post Office in Phibsborough. Having already witnessed the relocation of the local sorting office from the area, there is genuine concern that any future reduction of postal services will negatively impact on people, particularly our senior citizens.

“I have been campaigning on this issue now for many months, having organised a number of public meetings across the constituency. The Government need to get their act together. They have failed to support any viable long-term strategies to support Post Offices, putting many of them in danger of closing. Two hundred and twenty-two have already closed over the past ten years.

“I have written to the Minister for Communications, Denis Naughten seeking urgent clarification as to the future status of Phibsborough Post Office. I have made it clear that Sinn Féin will resist any attempt to close local Post Offices.” ENDS
