Mary Lou McDonald TD hosts youth engagement event in Croke Park

Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald TD today hosted a youth engagement event ‘Rise Up’ in Croke Park, the heart of her Dublin Central constituency.

The event showcased many of the positive attributes from the Dublin North Inner-City youth and focused on how young people can positively influence their communities as future leaders. All-Ireland winner with Dublin Ger Brennan was in attendance and spoke to the group.

The former Dublin player told the delegation of the impact community resources and groups had on him growing up in the constituency, and emphasised the importance of critical thinking.

Speaking at the event, Deputy McDonald said,

“Today’s engagement is about having a very important conversation with our youth to establish the real things that matter to them and the kind of community they wish to live in.

“We have showcased some of the talent and everything which is good about the North inner-city.

“As political leaders, we have a duty to ensure our youth are guided and signposted towards the opportunities which will better their lives and the society around them.

“We also have a responsibility to encourage greater participation and awareness in terms of our political structures and I look forward to continued engagement with our future leaders.

“If we are serious about investing in our future, we must invest in our young people.”
