McDonald accuses Government of Rutland Street School U-Turn

Sinn Féin’s Dublin Central TD Mary Lou McDonald has accused the Government of being complicit in a shameful U-turn after learning that Rutland Street National School is to be demolished, despite the government making funding available for its restoration last summer.

Ms McDonald said, “Just last July the Taoiseach launched the North East Inner City Taskforce initiative which promised funding for the development of Rutland Street School into a centre to provide a permanent location and focal point for local community projects in the North East Inner City. We now learn that this may now not be the case with concern growing amongst the local community that the site has been earmarked for private development.

“”The community is now demanding that Enda Kenny and Pascal Donahue come clean over the future intentions of Rutland Street School. The local community want to know exactly why the commitment to redevelop this essential community space now appears to have been taken off the table.
