McDonald to launch report on Mater Hospital

Sinn Féin’s Deputy Leader and TD for Dublin Central Mary Lou McDonald will next week launch a comprehensive report on the Misericordiae University Hopital (The Mater). The Mater is located within the heart of Dublin’s inner city and has a local catchment of 185,000 people. The report will shine a light on Government underspending in Health resulting in lengthy waiting lists, cancelled appointments and increased stress on hospital staff.

Speaking prior to the document launch, Deputy McDonald said,

“The health service in Ireland is in crisis. Successive Health Ministers have presided over the scrapping of universal health care and the creation of a private health industry which benefits the elites.

The Dublin Central TD explained,

“After consulting service providers, stakeholders, the HSE and service users, my report focuses on the urgent capital and operational investment needed to stop the deterioration in our health service, in particular, the Mater hospital.

Deputy McDonald concluded,

“Sinn Féin can fix the crisis in our health service. We have the leadership and vision for creating a long-term strategy for the future health of our nation, placing the citizen at the very heart of universal health care, free at the point of delivery.”

·        The publication launch takes place in the CWU Offices, William Norton House, 575-577 North Circular Road, Dublin on Tuesday 20th June at 10am.
