Sinn Fein Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald to Host Health Conference

Sinn Féin’s Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD is to host a health conference in Cabra on Friday 27th October entitled ‘Are you sick of waiting?.’ The conference will focus on the current record high levels of waiting lists and hospital over-crowding. It will include contributions from Stephen McMahon from the Irish Patients Association, Dr Austin O’Carroll a GP from the North Inner-City and Louise O’Reilly TD, Sinn Féin’s Health spokesperson.

Speaking ahead of the event, Ms McDonald the Dublin Central TD said,

“There is an unprecedented crisis in our health service. Patients, many of whom are on two year waiting lists for operations are at their wits end. Staff are at breaking point with overcrowding in our hospitals reaching record high levels. The government recently missed an opportunity to address this crisis in their budget proposals, deciding to further undercut health spending to facilitate new tax cuts.

“The conference will hear from those who are at the frontline in terms of health delivery. Louise O’Reilly TD will present practical solutions to address the health crisis. These solutions would offer dignity and respect to the 700,000 people on waiting lists and the hundreds of people on hospital trolleys.” CRIOCH
