Sinn Féin leader launches Councillors Consultative Project

Mary Lou McDonald TD has today launched an ambitious project to consult with Sinn Féin’s 250 Councillors across the island on key areas of political and organisational development in advance of the 2019 local elections.

The Sinn Féin leader said:

“Over the last ten years Sinn Féin has experienced rapid growth across the island at local and national level. This growth has provided opportunities and challenges.

“On my election as Uachtarán Shinn Féin I committed to modernise and grow the party and to adapt the party’s approaches and structures.

“This initiative puts our Councillors centre stage in achieving the renewed political and organisational objectives set out at last month’s Special Ard Fheis.

“My office will oversee an in-depth consultation with Sinn Féin Councillors in the areas of communications, professional training and wellbeing and enhanced organisational structures.

“In addition we will consider the impact of the reformed Council structures in the north and the linkages between cross border Councils.

“This project will culminate in a report setting out key recommendations in advance of the 2019 local elections to ensure the party is organisationally and politically match fit for the next phase of growth.”
